Between November 11th 2016 and 2nd January 2017, the Council is consulting the public on its Draft Local Plan for the borough.

The Council is keen to engage with residents, community representatives and other interested persons on the spatial strategy proposed within the Draft Local Plan, in particular the Vision, Opportunities, Priorities and Development Principles of the four spatial areas identified: Central Area, City Fringe, Isle of Dogs and South Poplar, and Lower Lea Valley.

Sub Area 1: The City Fringe Opportunity Area

LBTH says:

With eastward expansion of the City, and the emerging opportunities of ‘Tech City’, the City Fringe will be a vibrant and densely concentrated area of mixed commercial, cultural and leisure activities. It will be a place for a mixture of new affordable and flexible employment space that benefit from the area’s transport infrastructure.

Sub Area 2: The Central Area

LBTH says:

The Central Area will be strengthened by upgrading and revitalising town centres and neighbourhood parades, including the location of creative workspaces and SMEs. New developments will complement existing, well established streetscapes and integrate new homes within the existing communities.

Sub Area 3: The Lower Lea Valley Area

LBTH says:

The Lower Lea Valley area will continue to be the focus of regeneration. This will include the transformation of the A12 and a series of new bridges across the River Lea to integrate the existing and new communities with each other and surrounding areas.

The development of the Lea River Park and the Leaway will provide a large new public green space and a series of pedestrian and cycling routes. Revitalised and integrated communities will be set around a network of well- connected and enhanced green and water spaces.

Sub Area 4: The Isle of Dogs and South Poplar

LBTH says:

Canary Wharf will be integrated with neighbouring areas in South Poplar and the Isle of Dogs and will continue as a business district. Canary Wharf will also be a place for a vibrant commercial, retail and leisure hub, supported by additional employment space in the South Poplar and the Isle of Dogs.

Significant numbers of new homes will be delivered in the area, creating new communities particularly in and around South Quay and Wood Wharf.
